Doctors with Africa CUAMM

Doctors with Africa CUAMM, the oldest Italian NGO working in healthcare across sub-Saharan Africa, partnered with Abstract-Technology GmbH to rebuild its Just-In-Time in Low Resource Settings training platform based on the Open edX platform. Following a migration from its previous Moodle instance, the platform was re-engineered for low-bandwidth, mobile-first delivery — optimized for 3G connections and mid-range Android devices used by frontline health workers. The result is a fully managed, multilingual Open edX instance that now serves over 2,500 healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, midwives, and community health workers, across eight African countries. This purpose-built infrastructure delivers native support for English, French, Portuguese, and Italian, offloaded video streaming for weak connections, and automated multilingual certificate generation, freeing clinical educators to focus on delivering training rather than technical support. The impact is concrete: CUAMM is now positioned to scale toward 3,000+ learners within five years, with Swahili localization and interactive in-video assessments planned as the platform’s next evolution.doctorswithafrica.org Doctors with Africa CUAMM Health is a fundamental human right.Abstract Technology The European EdTech experts | Abstract Technology We specialize in end-to-end learning management systems (LMS) such as Open edX Platform, Moodle or Canvas, as well as AI-powered technologies.
