Can you believe it’s September? Here in Cambridge we’ve been working throughout the summer to make improvements for you and your learners. We hope you enjoy them!

Improvements for LearnersTwo mobile app screens, one showing the course page with video options, and the other showing the video page with a list of course videos.

Mobile 2.10 for Android and iOS

Mobile 2.10 is here! This latest version of the edX app for Android and iOS offers a new Videos option from the course page, so that learners can access all course videos in one place. Additionally, learners can now delete downloaded videos with a left swipe (iOS) or a long press (Android). Upcoming versions of the mobile app will have tablet support for both Android and iOS, and will automatically open in Spanish mode if a learner’s mobile phone is set to use Spanish.

Learner Profile Improvements

Many of our learners want to share their information with other learners. We’ve enhanced learner profiles so that they now include the date a learner joined edX and links to social media accounts in addition to an “About me” section. And soon, any certificates that a learner has earned will be visible on the profile as well. We’re happy to be helping our learners to build communities through edX!

Course Reviews

Want to know what learners think of your course? Your Open edX system adminstrator can configure a provider such as CourseTalk that allows learners to leave course reviews. To access these reviews, go to the Course page and select Reviews in the Course Tools list.

Program Purchases

Good news for Open edX instances that offer programs: to make signing up easier, we’ve added the ability for learners to purchase all the courses in a program in just one transaction. No more manually enrolling in courses one by one and entering payment information multiple times!

Improvements for Course Authors

Proctored Exams

We’ve been working to improve proctored exams for both learners and course teams. We’ve added a field where you can enter specific rules for a particular exam in the Studio UI. Any rules you add, as well as a link to the general rules for online proctored exams, will appear on the first page of all proctored exams.

Coming Soon

At edX, we’re committed to making the course authoring experience smoother and less time-consuming. In the next few months, look for changes to the Files & Uploads page in Studio, as well as other improvements. We’re excited to develop these new features for you!
