I wanted to let everyone know that I will soon be stepping down from my role as Open edX community lead and departing edX. It’s been a pleasure getting to know the Open edX Community and working with all of you. I have a hunch that I will continue to be involved in the Open edX community. More on that in due time. For now, I just want to express my gratitude for getting the opportunity to work with the most welcoming, diverse, and downright friendly community I’ve ever had the pleasure to be a part of. What we have created at Open edX project is unique, and it’s something we can be quite proud of.

You’re probably wondering what my departure means for the Open edX Community. For one thing, edX will continue to invest in supporting and growing the community.  As for the various community initiatives, look for the continuation and growth of things we started or improved upon these last few months:

  • Expanded Open edX Conference
  • Instructional Design community
  • Community working groups
  • Better, more reliable Open edX releases
  • Improved communication tools (https://discuss.openedx.org
  • INCRemental improvements, DEPRecated code

I hope to see all of you again at the next Open edX Conference, although I suspect it will be slightly less stressful for me this time 🙂

If you want to reach out with questions or feedback, I’m around until August 2.

Thank you,

John Mark
