We are excited to return for an in-person conference this year in Lisbon, Portugal! The 2022 Open edX Conference will be held between April 26th and April 29th, 2022. The hosts of this year’s conference are the Nova School of Business & Economics and FCT. 

This conference was initially planned for the Spring of 2020. However, due to the pandemic, the conference was postponed to this Spring. You can view the reserved conference space at the Nova School of Business & Economics here. 

Event Details

The 2022 Open edX Conference will present innovative uses of open source technology in higher education and inside corporations, across a global scale. You will learn about advancements in instructional design, course production, and methods for operating, extending, and enhancing the Open edX platform. This conference will be centered around expanding access to education globally, the future of work, and using open technology to solve today’s work challenges around up-skilling, re-skilling, and delivering life-long learning to students and employees alike.

Schedule Outline

Tuesday (4/26/22): Tutorials & workshops

Wednesday & Thursday(4/27/22 and 4/28/22): 45-minute breakout sessions and 10-minute lightning talks

Friday (4/28/22): In-depth summits for developers and instructional designers

All tickets include breakfast, lunch, coffee/tea time, and a cocktail reception scheduled for Wednesday, 4/27/22.

Since traveling internationally may involve updated Covid-19 guidelines, please view this document for a current travel guide to Portugal. It is important to note that travel requirements may change between now and April 26th, 2022. Therefore, please check for updated travel guidelines to Portugal on the  Portuguese National Health Services   website and the  Portugal Ministry of Tourism website. 

Visa Support Requests

Depending on the country of departure, Portugal may require a visa upon entry. If you require a visa and you would like the conference host to issue an invitation letter for you, please contact the Open edX Community Manager, Eden Huthmacher at ehuthmacher@axim.org. For information regarding visa types and which countries require a visa upon entry to Portugal, please reference the Schengen Visa Information page or contact your local Portuguese consulate.
