What if we could equip every young person with the essential skills they need to thrive, not just in school, but in life? That’s the question driving Gen+, a Scotland-based organization on a mission to build resilience, collaboration, and critical thinking skills in children aged 9 to 14.
The Challenge
Launched in 2021 with funding from the Peter Vardy Foundation, Gen+ had an ambitious vision: create a scalable meta-skills learning ecosystem for every pupil and teacher across Scotland. But they faced a significant hurdle, they needed more than just an off-the-shelf learning platform. They required a fully customized solution that could seamlessly integrate with Scotland’s national education system (Glow), engage young learners through gamification, and provide educators with real-time insights into student progress.
A Custom-Built Solution
Partnering with Edly by Arbisoft, Gen+ developed a comprehensive Open edX-based platform that brought their vision to life. The solution featured a visually stunning, game-inspired interface with 3D avatars, interactive dashboards for tracking student growth, and a dedicated content management system for teachers. Every element was designed with the end user in mind, whether that was a 10-year-old discovering their strengths or a teacher monitoring reflective learning across their classroom.
Real-World Impact
The results speak for themselves. Since launching in January 2023, the platform has engaged over 5,000 students and 900 teachers across 11 schools. Teachers now have access to a rich library of micro-learning content to support their own professional development, while actionable analytics help personalize learning paths for each student.
And this is just the beginning, Gen+ is set to expand to 40 schools in the next academic cycle, with plans for nationwide coverage on the horizon.
