EdX has just released the newest version of the edX platform on edx.org and edX Edge.

This release includes the following updates.

  • Version 2.5.1 of the edX app for the Android platform and version 2.5.0 of the edX app for the iOS platform are now available. These versions add improvements to the video player and to course discussions. You can download these versions of the app from Google Play or the App Store.

  • To improve accessibility, edX has updated the tabbed component that is currently used in the teams feature and the learner profile and adjusted some colors in Studio and the LMS. For example, the following image shows the options for new components in Studio before and after this color change.

Two versions of the Add New Component options in Studio, the first with the buttons in a lighter green and the second with the buttons in a darker green.

  • EdX is in the process of transitioning the XBlockDisableConfig model and its associated settings to the new XBlockConfiguration and XBlockStudioConfiguration models. After the transition is complete, edX will delete the XBlockDisableConfig model and its associated settings. The Eucalyptus release will not include these changes.

  • A new section in the Installing, Configuring, and Running the Open edX Platform guide describes how to configure an Open edX instance to serve course assets from a content delivery network (CDN). For more information, see Enabling a CDN for Course Assets.
