EdX has just released the newest version of the edX platform on edx.org and edX Edge.

This release includes the following features and enhancements.

  • The latest version of the edX for Android (version 2.0.0) is now available. In addition to watching course videos, learners who access edX courses using Android smartphones can now use the app to view HTML and text components, and complete assignments that consist of the basic assessment types (checkbox, dropdown, multiple choice, and text or numerical input). For information, see Using an edX Mobile App in the EdX Learner’s Guide or Using an edX Mobile App in the Open edX Learner’s Guide

  • Course teams can now use a new procedure for uploading course About videos. The edX media team has developed a process that automates hosting and encoding for your About videos. For more information, see Add a Course Video in the Building and Running an edX Course guide.

  • When learners upload images and links in course discussions, they are now prompted to include descriptions for the uploaded images or links. These descriptions are used as accessible text descriptions, and are required unless learners indicate that an image is only for decorative purposes.

For more information about other changes in this release, see the edX Release Notes. You can access the weekly release notes, as well as all of the edX documentation, at docs.edx.org.
