Over the past few days, six edXers have flown from Cambridge, MA to Paris in order to participate in an Open edX hackathon in France.
Alongside France Université Numérique (FUN-MOOC) and IONISx, Nimisha Asthagiri, David Baumgold, Gabe Mulley, Beth Porter, Brian Talbot, and Ed Zarecor will be mentoring over a hundred students in developing the Open edX platform for mobile, XBlocks, analytics, video, design, and administration.
The hackathon will be juried, winner selected from among the areas of development, and from that an overall winner will be selected. They will be attending Open edX Con 2015 in Boston, MA, where they’ll present on their work.
What’s really exciting about this hackathon is that it is dispersed. While many participants will be in Paris, there are twelve locations across the country where students will get together to collaborate all day Friday and through most of Saturday.

#OpenedXHack constitue une grande première en France, tant en termes de richesses des échanges, des projets, des talents sollicités que des établissements participant puisque la fondation edX – créée par le Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT et Harvard University en 2012 (500 cours en ligne) – porteuse du projet Open edX, s’associe à l’évènement aux côtés de la plateforme de France Université Numérique (FUN-MOOC) platform (800 000 inscriptions, plus d’une centaine de cours) et (25 MOOC ouverts en permanence, auteur de l’unique thème full responsive Open edX.
l’événement consistera à réunir plus de 300 étudiants, développeurs, designers d’interface web et administrateurs systèmes pour travailler sur des projets informatiques collaboratifs à la manière d’un marathon. Les équipes travailleront en continu pendant 48 heures à l’issue desquelles les meilleurs projets seront sélectionnés et récompensés.
