UniDigital: A Shared Open edX Learning Platform for Seven Spanish Universities

Led by the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and six Madrid-area public universities, the EU-funded UniDigital project extended the Open edX platform from a MOOC delivery platform into a comprehensive LMS capable of supporting both online and on-campus instruction. Working with implementation partner eduNEXT, the consortium addressed real institutional challenges: diverse IT infrastructures, cross-institutional data privacy, and varying pedagogical approaches. The result is a shared platform enabling collaboration, resource efficiency, and data-informed course improvement across seven independent institutions. The project demonstrates how the Open edX platforms’s open-source architecture and active community can underpin large-scale public sector educational reform funded by NextGenerationEU.
