NASA Open Science 101: Training Researchers in Open Science Using the Open edX Platform

NASA set out to train 20,000 researchers in open science principles through a structured, credentialed online curriculum — and needed a platform that could handle complex sequencing, diverse learner paths, and meaningful analytics from day one. Raccoon Gang designed and delivered five SCORM-based modules integrated into a branded Open edX instance, with guided progression, Credly badge credentialing, and RG Analytics for outcome tracking. The program launched on schedule within roughly three months and is built to scale without rearchitecting. For organizations requiring structured large-cohort delivery with measurable outcomes, this deployment is a clear demonstration of what the Open edX platform can support in practice.
