We are pleased to welcome the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) as a new edX member. W3C is the global organization that sets standards for the Web, and for 14 years they have developed and hosted open-source tools used every day by millions of Web developers.

I've seen the Future It's in my Browser

W3C’s first course on edX, HTML5 Part 1, is now open for enrollment. The standard language of the Web, HTML5 was crafted by W3C and the Web community. This course will offer students an opportunity to learn from the experts who helped create HTML5, while practicing its latest features and learning to create rich Web sites and applications.

Led by Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee and CEO Dr. Jeff Jaffe, W3C unites an international community of member organizations, a full-time staff and the public as they work to lead the Web to its full potential. Focused on collaboration, openness and education, W3C aligns with the edX mission and will help edX learners expand and refine their technical abilities.

W3C is jointly run by MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (MIT CSAIL) in the U.S., the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM) headquartered in France, Keio University in Japan, and Beihang University in China, and has additional offices worldwide.

Please join me in welcoming W3C to edX!
