We are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking initiative that is poised to shape the future of education and training in Portugal – NAU’s comprehensive Project Execution Plan. Over the next three years, FCCN, a Scientific Computing Unit of FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology , is embarking on a remarkable journey to elevate the NAU platform and redefine learning in Portugal.
The NAU Platform: A Beacon of Innovation
NAU represents a cutting-edge online project that’s making waves at the national level in Portugal. It is dedicated to facilitating education and training through the creation of MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) formats. The NAU platform is the brainchild of the FCCN Unit under the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), a part of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education.
Since its inception in 2019, NAU has witnessed remarkable growth, with nearly 240,000 registered users and over 580,000 enrollments across 173 courses. These courses are a collaborative effort, developed by 51 esteemed partners from higher education, public administration, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations.
Our Ambitious Vision
As we set out on this transformative journey, we have a clear vision: to position the NAU platform as the preeminent Learning Management System (LMS) in our country. We’re committed to providing top-tier software and services to NAU’s partners, empowering them to achieve their educational goals and fostering innovation in the realm of online learning.
A Four-Phased Approach
Our €275,000 project, spanning the next three years, is structured into four distinct Work Packages. Each package is designed to play a vital role in our overarching mission:
1. Consulting for Infrastructure and Maintenance Activities: This phase will focus on the upkeep and optimization of our infrastructure. We’ll ensure that our advanced tools, infrastructure, and software are maintained in perfect working order.
2. Development Roadmap Definition: At the heart of our strategy, this phase will see us crafting a comprehensive roadmap for the coming three years. We’ll identify key development areas and establish success metrics to guide our progress.
3. Technical Consultancy for Roadmap Monitoring: To stay on course, this phase involves ongoing guidance and engagement with the Open edX community. We’re committed to fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and keeping abreast of the latest developments in the edTech sector.
4. Development Project Implementation:** In alignment with the strategies outlined in the previous phases, this part of our project brings our plans to life. We’ll be executing various development projects with agility, ensuring that the code developed benefits the broader Open edX community.
Engaging Our Stakeholders
Our project thrives on collaboration. Key stakeholders include the NAU Team, the Open edX Provider’s team, NAU’s community, and the Open edX Community. Each of these entities plays a pivotal role in steering the success of this ambitious undertaking.
What Lies Ahead
This Project Execution Plan is designed to be transparent, efficient, and adaptable. We’ll be leveraging a range of tools, including GitHub, Confluence, Jira, and Jira Helpdesk, to facilitate seamless communication and reporting.
This marks the beginning of an exciting journey, one that’s poised to redefine education and training in Portugal.
