Open edX Team Update

September 5, 2019 | By

As many of you may have read on the Open edX blog, John Mark Walker has stepped down from his role as Open edX Community Lead and departed edX earlier this month.

As an Open edX team we wanted to share with you our current plans and next steps to help answer any questions that you may have.

Team

The current Open edX team is: Ned Batchelder, Natalia Berdnikov, Marco Morales, and Ed Zarecor. We are expecting to grow the team in the coming months as well. We are continuing to work on the initiatives started in 2019 that we announced at the last Open edX conference. In particular we would like to drive forward our three 2019 community goals:

  1. Drive Product Development Collaboration
  2. Collectively Improve Platform Health
  3. Expand Teaching and Learning Contributions

Community Events & Discourse

We are excited about the next year and welcome your suggestions and feedback. We will be having our next community hangout on September 12th, 1pm Eastern US time. Details are on the wiki, including the Zoom link.  Our plan is to share details about a pilot aimed at driving product development collaboration earlier. We also recently launched Open edX Discourse (https://discuss.openedx.org) as a way to support threaded conversations within the community for collaboration and discussion.

Open edX Conference 2020

We are excited about the next Open edX 2020 Conference, May 19–22, 2020 in Portugal! We encourage you to save the date to make sure you will be able to attend. In the coming months we will open the call for Open edX 2020 conference talks: sessions, lightning talks, and tutorials.  Start thinking about what you want to tell the community!
